PERRY, Ga. - eTradeWire -- Rep. Shaw Blackmon (R-Bonaire) received a 2024 "Champion of Georgia's Cities Award" from the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA). The award, given at the end of every two-year legislative term to state legislators who actively support major GMA initiatives and goals, was presented to Blackmon on September 3rd in Perry.

During the 2023 and 2024 legislative sessions of the General Assembly, Representative Shaw Blackmon, as House Ways and Means Chairman, oversaw much of the revenue and taxation legislation affecting cities. Rep. Blackmon consistently considered the municipal impact of legislation and worked to address cities' needs and concerns through legislation. In particular, GMA appreciates Rep. Blackmon's sound guidance in crafting and perfecting House Bill 581, which institutes historic changes to property and sales tax.
