DENVER - eTradeWire -- Austere Environmental, won Colorado Cleantech's 11th annual Oil & Gas Cleantech Challenge Thursday, October 24, 2024 in Denver, Colorado. The clean technology scouting program featured 12 innovative technology companies from the United States, and Canada. Each company was selected through a competitive vetting process by leaders and technology experts in the oil and gas industry. Technologies introduced at the Oil & Gas Cleantech Challenge offered sustainable solutions to the oil and gas industry.
"Austere Environmental is honored to have taken first place at Colorado Cleantech's 2024 Oil and Gas Cleantech Challenge. The competition was quite impressive. It was our pleasure to share our diesel extraction technology with the oil and gas industry sponsors who participated in the event. Together we can positively impact the environment and the local economy," said Austere Environmental CEO, Curtis Purrington.

Austere Environmental is a climate tech company that extracts diesel and hydrocarbons from contaminated soils. Austere has developed the first ever third-party-verified technology that extracts oil contaminants on site to below background levels, without harming the soil.
Runner-ups were TS-Nano and Lotic Technologies. TS-Nano, based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, reduces methane emissions from wellbores using its monitoring technologies, patented sealants, and blockchain-supported carbon offsets, enabling its partners to achieve their Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and decarbonization goals.
Lotic Technologies, based in Nisku, Alberta, Canada offers commercialized Electro Catalytic-Advanced Oxidation Process (EC-AOP) systems, designed to effectively treat and/or recycle contaminated water in the oil and gas industry, with proven success in eliminating contaminants.
"We were thrilled with the caliber of the presentations and how well the teams addressed the challenges posed by our sponsors," said Laura Hickernell, executive director. "The pitches and feedback from the judges were exceptional this year, and we appreciate the partnerships that make this program possible. Colorado Cleantech looks forward to planning further Cleantech Challenges for 2025, including the aviation and mining industries."
