Town Village Crossing celebrates new coop for their pet baby chick and duckling

ARLINGTON, Texas - eTradeWire -- Standing in the courtyard of independent senior living community Town Village Crossing is a chicken coop ... but Whataburger-style! Town Village Crossing is celebrating their chicken coop shaped like a Whataburger restaurant with a ribbon-cutting event at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 21st at 1250 W Pioneer Pkwy in Arlington.

The Story of Quacker Jax and Dottie
Since Quacker Jax, a Swedish Black duck, and Dottie, a Black Silver Laced Wyandotte, have been living in the community, residents have been taking turns babysitting them.

Cholly thought how much fun it would be for the residents to be able to take care of an animal, especially when visits are limited due to the pandemic. In August, she ordered an incubator and 12 farm mix duck eggs. The residents watched the eggs for 28 days. The community ended up with only 1 egg on the 26th day.

The residents came in all day and watched the lone duck moving in his egg. On Saturday, September 12th, the baby duck starting pecking a hole. It was time for Cholly to go home so she carefully packed up the egg, still in the incubator, and drove home with it. It wasn't an hour until Quacker Jax was out!

Cholly had read that ducks can sometimes pass away if they are alone so on the following Sunday she went to feed stores and found a precious chick. They are now a few days past a month old and go out for walks every day at 3 p.m. The duck Jax follows the residents and Dottie the Chick rides on people's shoulders. They have brought so much joy to our community not only to the residents but the associates who work there as well.

Town Village Crossing is a 55-and-older independent senior living community managed by Pegasus Senior Living.
