Students can share food pictures, creative food waste reduction tips, ask questions and invite friends to participate while earning points towards multiple winning prizes. For each cycle of activities, winning prizes are announced for most active participants. To ensure reaching the target demography, partnership with schools and home-schooling communities is essential as rewards are shipped directly to schools winners are affiliated with.

According to Norma Brown whose kids were part of the pilot : "I've never seen my kids so engaged! They love being part of the YSCooks. Immediately after breakfast, they start looking for nutritious meal for lunch. They really enjoy posting pictures and sharing their thoughts on what others are sharing. I'm sure the prospect of winning a prize helped motivate them as well " - she concluded
