AI Must Understand Your Business Before It Can Represent It
eTradeWire News/10831336
New research argues that entity recognition — not ranking — is the foundational requirement for AI visibility.
JOHNSTON, Iowa - eTradeWire -- Big House Enterprise today introduced the concept of 'entity recognition' as the foundational requirement for AI visibility, arguing that businesses must first be understood by AI systems before they can be accurately represented. This marks a fundamental departure from traditional SEO, which assumed businesses were already recognized and focused only on ranking position.
The distinction matters because AI systems do not rank websites — they attempt to understand entities. A business that is not recognized as a distinct entity by an AI system cannot appear in its responses, regardless of how well its website performs in traditional search.
"SEO was built on the assumption that Google already knew who you were," said Chris Tutino, chief revenue officer at Big House Enterprise. "AI systems make no such assumption. If they can't confirm what your business is, they won't mention it at all."

Big House Enterprise's research frames this as a fundamentally different problem requiring a fundamentally different approach. Where SEO practitioners optimize content for ranking algorithms, AI visibility requires a layered architecture — starting with entity comprehension and building upward through increasingly sophisticated optimization stages.
The research suggests that businesses investing in advanced AI optimization techniques without first addressing entity recognition are building on unstable foundations. Each layer of the approach depends on the one beneath it, and skipping steps leads to unreliable results.
"Most businesses jump straight to asking how they can get cited by ChatGPT," said Tutino. "That's like asking how to win a race before you've registered to compete. The AI has to know you exist — and know what you are — before anything else matters."
Big House Enterprise describes this approach as a new discipline, distinct from both traditional SEO and conventional digital marketing.
