NEW YORK - eTradeWire -- New York, NY – After 37 years of visionary leadership, the Dominican Women's Development Center (DWDC)—a national leader in empowering immigrant women—is entering a new chapter. During Women's History Month, the Washington Heights-based nonprofit announced the appointment of Marielys Divanne as its new Executive Director.

The transition marks a milestone for the organization as co-founder and pioneering Executive Director Rosita M. Romero steps down after nearly four decades of service. Under Romero's leadership, DWDC grew from a grassroots group in a local church into the largest independent Dominican-founded nonprofit in the U.S.

Marielys Divanne, a first-generation college graduate born in the Dominican Republic, brings over 25 years of experience in education equity and social justice. She previously served as Executive Director of Educators for Excellence New York and as Senior Advisor to the NYC Deputy Mayor for Strategic Initiatives.

"Stepping into this role is both a profound honor and deeply personal," said Marielys Divanne. "At a moment when many immigrant families are navigating uncertainty, organizations like DWDC matter more than ever. Local officials praised the appointment and recognized DWDC's role as a cornerstone of Northern Manhattan.
