NEW YORK - eTradeWire -- AdvisorSmith, a leading resource for small businesses, published its latest study that analyzed the fatal occupational injury rate in all 50 states to find the safest and most dangerous states for workers in America.

The study used data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics on fatal occupational injuries in 2018.

AdvisorSmith discovered that the workplace fatality rates varied widely around the county. The state with the lowest workplace fatality rate only had 1.5 fatalities per 100,000 workers, while the state with the highest workplace fatality rate had 11.1 fatalities per 100,000 workers.

The most dangerous state for workers was Wyoming. Wyoming is the least populated state in the county but had the highest occupational fatality rate for workers. The state's fatality rate was 11.1 per 100,000 workers. Wyoming's economy relies heavily on natural resources like coal, oil, natural gas, and mining. The state also has a significant agricultural sector. Workers in these industries are more likely to have fatal occupational injuries.

The safest state for workers was Delaware. Delaware is the second smallest state by area and is among the most densely populated in the country. The state's fatality rate was 1.5 per 100,000 workers. Delaware has a strong corporate law industry and legal system and has more corporations registered in the state than people living in the state. Delaware has a diverse economy that includes education, banking, technology, chemicals, and healthcare. Workers in these industries have lower fatality rates than the national average.
