Tommy Fan and Mark Yates to Serve as Co-Chairs for Annual Fundraiser

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - eTradeWire -- The NAACP Memphis Branch announced its co-chairs for the 2023 Freedom Fund Celebration on its website this week. Philanthropist and entrepreneur Tommy Fan will serve with Mark Yates, TVA's West Region Vice President as co-chairs over the festivities. The event will take place on Saturday, June 17, 2023, with the reception starting at 5:30 p.m. and the program beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Halloran Center for Performing Arts & Education, located at 203 S. Main Street, Memphis, TN 38103.

Tommy Fan was born in Guangdong, China, and migrated to New York with his parents in 1989. He studied electrical engineering at GCI Community College and, in 1996 became a salesman for Host Trading in New York, where he met his wife of 22 years. Fan, now a Memphian, has a philanthropic spirit and is dedicated to financially investing in Memphis' people and projects. Fan is a man of faith, and he and his wife, Monica, have four children.

Mark Yates is the Tennessee Valley Authority's regional vice president for the West Region. A native Memphian, Yates holds an Executive Master of Business Administration degree from Vanderbilt Owen Graduate School of Management and a Bachelor of Arts from Howard University in Economics and Finance. Yates has led numerous teams and organizations on successful endeavors throughout his career, including as Chief of Staff and CFO at LeMoyne-Owen College, Senior Vice President and Investment Banker for Rice Financial Products, Chief Investor Relations Officer and Senior Vice President for First Horizon National Corporation, Vice President and Investment Banker for Morgan Keegan & Company, and Chief of Staff for the U.S. House of Representatives Office of Harold Ford, Jr. A seasoned board member and community advocate, Yates currently serves or has served on over 20 boards across the city and is a self-identified "girl dad." He and his wife have two daughters attending college.

Last month, the Branch announced its keynote speaker would be Don Lemon, award-winning journalist and former host of CNN's Don Lemon Tonight.  Lemon has won various distinguished awards for his work, which spanned nearly three decades, including an Edward R. Murrow award, multiple Emmys, and a Peabody award.
